Darkspawn Chronicles, the next piece of DLC planned for BioWare’s epic fantasy RPG Dragon Age: Origins, is set to rewrite history and put you in the role of the Darkspawn. The $5 add-on, currently due for release on May 18th for PC and Xbox 360 and sometime thereafter for PS3, will play upon the idea of an alternate history where your hero doesn’t survive the Joining ritual and thus fails to become the heroic Grey Warden tasked with saving Ferelden from the army of the Blight.
Instead, you will play as a hurlock vanguard and experience the Fall of Denerim from the perspective of the darkspawn. The main new feature will be the “Enthrall” ability, which will allow you to recruit any darkspawn into your party, including genlocks, hurlocks, shrieks, and ogres. Completing the mission is also said to unlock an “epic darkspawn item” for use in the main game and the Awakening expansion.
So, what do you think? Sound like a worthwhile reason to revisit Dragon Age or just another lazy DLC cash-in attempt? It sounds interesting, but I’m leaning towards the latter…
