Another big-name game has been outed prior to E3, with THQ and Volition, by way of GameTrailers TV, confirming the development of Red Faction: Armageddon, the sequel to Red Faction: Guerrilla.
The debut trailer viewable here shows off a pretty surprising change of scenery and atmosphere from its hit predecessor, with the game taking place beneath Mars’ surface and looking a whole lot more like Dead Space than Guerrilla.
According to Kotaku, Armageddon’s star is Darius Mason, the grandson of Alec Mason and Samanya. From the early images, Darius looks like the same ol’ dark and gritty bald white dude with tattoos, which seems to be the popular template for video game heroes these days. What I’m most interested to see, though, is how much the open-world style and incredible environment destructibility will be changing, because it seems like they’d have to with the game taking place underground.
Red Faction: Armageddon is scheduled for PC, PS3 and Xbox 360 release in March 2011.
