Activision has dropped a new trailer for Raven Software and id Software’s “next-gen” Wolfenstein game, which should be out by year’s end for PC, PS3 and Xbox 360. While it appears to be a competent FPS, I can’t say the trailer has me all that enthused about the game. See what you think.

That looks to bring pretty much every complaint I have with the focus of ‘next gen’ into focus: unoriginal, focus on ‘pretty’ & ‘big boom’, too much scripting, and did I say unoriginal?
Oh, I’ll play it and all, but prepare to mute my complaining the whole while 😉
The whole zombie Nazi thing is just so played out now.
I think they could make it fresh … but this immediately sounds like it suffers from ‘Deus Ex Invisible War’ syndrome …
I mean, the original games had no occult, but Wolf 3D had some – but also loads of time in prison escaping. RtCW was loaded up with a massive undead & occult plot inside the Reich. OK, I’m fine with that … actually I thought the RtCW gameplay was a bit ‘loose’ and it hasn’t aged well.
But now we get ‘you’ve stopped a mutant soldier plot … and uncovered a massive UberSoldier plot that included resurrecting ultimate power’ … but now you have to stop the mega-super-ultimate power secret plot to take over the universe? Um … not likely.
