Well it seems that GameStop’s recent announcement on not being able to fill all of their pre-orders was just a sign of things to come.
Today Lazard Capital Markets’ Colin Sebastian in his latest note to investors is quoted as saying:
“We expect Sony to deliver 150-200k units to stores in the United States for the launch; consumers without pre-orders may find it difficult to locate an available system. We estimate sales of approximately 750k PS3s domestically by year-end. We expect a more robust launch from Nintendo, with at least 1.2 million units sold in the U.S. and up to four million units shipped worldwide by year-end.”
That’s a significant decrease from the 400k units Sony estimated would be available for the North American launch this coming Friday. Additionaly Colin expects retailers to feel a dent in their wallets as well because with a lower install base for the PlayStation 3, fewer people will be purchasing video games and accessories.
I always knew I kept that beatstick in my car for a reason….
