Last month Sony began Cheap Cheap’s Cook Up a Character Contest challenging gamers to create and submit their very own original PaRappa the Rapper character. Over the weekend, the top ten finalists’ were announced, each of whom was rewarded with a PaRappa PSP skin, charm and beanie for their efforts. Out of the final ten, one grand prize winner will be selected by game creator Rodney Greenblatt and have their character redrawn and framed, along with scoring a copy of the new PaRappa the Rapper PSP remake. The grand prize winner will be announced on September 30th, so stay tuned…
I don’t mean to knock any of the contest participants, but looking over the ten winning characters I’m guessing Sony didn’t get the greatest of submissions. I mean seriously, except for a couple the character designs look like they were slapped together in MS Paint, and not a one fits in with the PaRappa universe. I don’t know about you, but if I had a vote I’d give it to the creator of Baybeedin Foyu the ninja penguin.
Yes, I did draw Ty Garr with MS Paint. I had 4 hours to enter the contest. I drew the character on paper, but didn’t have time to scan, print, ink, scan, color. I drew it in paint and I got a beanie like I always wanted. Man, where on Earth did the guy come up with a Gnome character? I’m thinking that’s way too weird for Parappa, but I gotta respect Rodney. I believed, but not quite enough. Oh well. I’ve been wanting a PSP, a new key chain, and the beanie, so I’m happy. Besides, I’m a Lammy fan. I don’t need the game. I got Parappa 2.
So did that Gnome character win the grand prize? If so that’s pretty ridiculous, that’s one of the worst ones- doesn’t fit in with the existing Parappa cast whatsoever.
Congrats on making the top 10 Philip, that’s a nice prize pack you won there.
