Patton Oswalt Stars in Telltale’s Minecraft: Story Mode Episodic Series

From Minecon 2015, Mojang and Telltale Games have confirmed the voice acting cast for the upcoming Minecraft: Story Mode five-episode series.

Comedian Patton Oswalt of Ratatouille fame is headlining the cast as protagonist Jesse. Notable supporting actors include Dave Fennoy (Lee Everett from Telltale’s The Walking Dead), Ashley Johnson (Ellie from The Last of Us), Paul Reubens (Pee-wee fucking Herman!), and old Goonies stars Corey Feldman and Martha Plimpton.

Brian Posehn, Scott Porter, and Billy West round out the currently announced voice acting crew, with additional casting announcements still to come.

The plot of Minecraft: Story Mode goes a little something like this:

Jesse and his group of friends revere the legendary Order of the Stone; four adventurers who slayed an Ender Dragon. The Order are the very best at what they do: Warrior, Redstone Engineer, Griefer, and Architect. While at EnderCon, Jesse and his friends discover that something is wrong… something dreadful. Terror is unleashed, and they must set out on a journey to find The Order of the Stone if they are to save their world from oblivion.

I wasn’t too keen on the idea of this game when Telltale announced it late last year, but I’m beginning to come around. Or maybe it’s just because I am in the middle of reading a series of novelized Minecraft adventures (review coming soon as part of our Summer Book Club) and now have an appreciation for how the voxel world can be adapted into character driven stories.

The first season of Minecraft: Story Mode is scheduled to begin later this year on Android, iOS, PC/Mac, PlayStation 3, PlayStation 4, Xbox 360, and Xbox One. Watch the game’s world premiere trailer below.
