2K Sports has released the first in-game screenshot from next-gen NBA 2K14 (it was captured on PlayStation 4 but will look just as good on Xbox One). For the first time we can make a direct comparison between this season’s top basketball sim across console generations. Well, surprise–the next-gen version is way more detailed and uncanny valley realistic than what hoops fans will currently find playable on their PS3s and Xbox 360s. Just look at the wrinkles on LeBron’s brow, the textures of his jersey and arm sleeve and the basketball, the more nuanced colors and lighting. It’s quite an impressive graphical leap forward.
Of course this is only a screenshot. The real magic will happen when we get to see actual moving gameplay of LeBron James and other NBA superstars balling on next-gen consoles. We don’t have that for you just yet, but 2K says the game’s first gameplay trailer is scheduled to drop next week. Don’t forget to dribble back around to check it out!
