On branding alone, Kinect Star Wars has garnered a lot of hype and attention, despite looking consistently lousy in every trailer, gameplay clip and stage demo it’s ever appeared in. Star Wars fans simply cannot stop the nostalgic yearning for a true motion-control lightsaber combat game is clearly the reason.
Unfortunately, I think they may have to, once and for all. While Kinect Star Wars‘s Rancor Rampage mode looks like pure destructive fun, I can’t say the same for the three modes featured in this latest gameplay video.
Pod racing seems decent enough I guess, players required to shift their arms back and forth to steer and activate turbo boost. But the Jedi dueling continues to look slow and clunky, and then there’s the shameless dance mode which has a trio of stormtroopers busting a groove to a Galactic Empire remix of the Village People’s disco anthem “Y.M.C.A.” Ummm… OK, yeah.
We’ll see how the game turns out on April 3rd. Keep expectations low.
