Rayman Legends Leaps Onto PS4 and Xbox One with Assassin’s Creed, Far Cry 3, and Splinter Cell Bonus Costumes

OK, so we’re now at a point where seemingly every “new” game announcement for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One is nothing more than an enhanced re-release of a game we can already play on our PS3s or Xbox 360s. It’s not a bad thing for great games to reach larger audiences, but I’m not sure it helps sell expensive new console hardware when the software lineup continues to be almost entirely retread material.

Anyway… My mini-rant there stems from Ubisoft’s announcement today that Rayman Legends will be releasing for PS4 and Xbox One on February 25, 2014 in North America. That’s awesome. Rayman Legends is a masterpiece of a 2D platformer. I love it to death. I’m still waiting for more brand new games to hit PS4 and Xbox One before I buy either one, but this is a game I wouldn’t mind double dipping on. And needless to say, anyone who hasn’t played it yet will need to jump all over this chance to play the game at its best.

Rayman Legends already is a jaw-droppingly colorful and gorgeous game, but the increased graphical horsepower will jack the vibrancy up another notch while also reducing load times between stages. Each platform will also offer exclusive bonuses. Xbox One players will get the better of the deal thanks to 10 exclusive challenge levels paired with new time-limited Achievements, as well as Rayman and Globox costumes themed after Splinter Cell and Vaas, the memorable villain from Far Cry 3. The PS4 version on the other hand will come with an Assassin’s Creed costume for Rayman and support DualShock 4 touchpad controls, screenshot and video content sharing, and PlayStation Vita remote play.

Pretty cool stuff overall. I’d post the announcement trailer, if only it didn’t star Snoop Dogg/Snoop Lion. Seriously, why are so many companies using this guy as a commercial pitchman? Their attempts to bring “street cred” to their products come off as so phony, especially since Snoop is about 15 years past his prime. Or maybe I’ve just become a grouchy old man now.
