For me, I take the ‘consumer’ side: stuff like Trackmania or the original Serious Sam games are ‘budget’ games with a ‘AAA mindset’. This game reminds me of something built for the dollar store!

I’m not sure I’d call either a budget racer though. Even though they are cheap, you can tell they were developed with more care than real budget games.

You change expectations, but they can still manage to be pretty decent.

The most important elements to a racing game — physics, damage modeling, sense of speed, etc. — can’t be developed that realistically on a budget. Just the way it is.
