The Untold Legends games are fairly generic, no doubt about that. They are completely derived from the Champions of Norrath series after all. I still don’t understand why SOE was so quick to ditch the Champions franchise, because the EverQuest tie-in gave those games an identity and an established universe to build around, and with both EQ games still going there are newer classes and worlds they could have pulled from for newer installments.

But I don’t know…I find it hard to be overly picky when it comes to dungeon crawl action-RPGs. They exist to serve a singular purpose, and there are very few that stand out as non-derivative. So as long as they fulfill their purpose well, I’m happy. Every time I jump into Warrior’s Code, I wind up losing track of time and playing far longer than I intended, so to me it has that addictive ‘hacking and looting’ draw that I look for in action-RPGs.

Worth getting – particularly now that they are $10-15 on PSN? Definitely … but I find them rather generic and uninspired.
