Volition has dropped two Saints Row-sized bombs at PAX Prime today.
First and foremost, Saints Row IV, like numerous other last-gen games before it, is getting a remastered new-gen edition for PlayStation 4 and Xbox One titled Saints Row IV: Re-Elected.
On top of the re-release, there’s a brand new Saints Row game coming. Not the next full-fledged Saints Row game, as in Saints Row V, but rather a standalone expansion and epilogue to Saints Row IV dubbed Gat out of Hell. It’ll take place in the hellish open-world playground of New Hades, where Johnny Gat and Kinzie Kensington — playable in single player or co-op — will take on demons of the underworld and shoot The Devil in the face in order to help save The Boss from being forced into marrying Satan’s daughter.
Collaboratively developed by Volition and High Voltage Software (the studio behind Wii first-person shooters The Conduit and Conduit 2), Gat out of Hell will offer a full sandbox of attractions: “medaling on activities, completing diversions, exploring, conquering the city, finding hidden treasures, killing — the possibilities are sure to please!” Super powers will make a return with a supernatural twist, including abilities like angelic flight, holy auras and demonic summons. A new arsenal of weapons will only add to the unholy fun, including a La-Z-Boy recliner outfitted with dual chainguns, a gun that talks, a gun that shoots bugs, and a powerful line of weapons based on the seven deadly sins known as The 7 Legendary Deadly Weapons.
Oh yeah, and supposedly there will even be a full length Disney-style musical number. Okay, that’s enough. I want this game. No, I need this game.
Saints Row IV: Re-Elected and Saints Row: Gat out of Hell are both scheduled to launch on January 27, 2015. Gat out of Hell will be sold digitally on PC, PS3, PS4, Xbox 360 and Xbox One for $20. The retail PS4 and Xbox One release of Saints Row IV: Re-Elected will come bundled with Gat out of Hell.
