Shovel Knight amiibo Figure Revealed

Yacht Club Games has become the first indie studio to work directly with Nintendo on implementing amiibo compatibility into a game, tonight unveiling a Shovel Knight amiibo figure for 3DS and Wii U.

A release date has not yet been announced beyond a vague confirmation that it’ll be in stores soon.

In addition to looking straight up bad ass–seriously, this has to be my favorite amiibo yet–the Shovel Knight amiibo will bring exclusive content and features to Nintendo platforms, including a cooperative mode for Wii U, as well as customization options, challenge stages, and plans for support in future games.

Here’s an overview of everything amiibo support will bring to Shovel Knight:

Cooperative Multiplayer (exclusive to Wii U)!
•Join a friend’s Shovel Knight campaign and shovel together!
•Use new cooperative moves to help each other out along the way!

Deep Customization!
•Level up by defeating enemies and finding treasure!
•Earn all-new relics, abilities, and powers you never thought possible!
•Customize the look of your Shovel Knight with cool and crazy cosmetic options!
•Use your custom amiibo seamlessly between 3DS and Wii U!

Exclusive Challenge Stages!
•Battle your way through amiibo exclusive challenge stages that take advantage of the new amiibo relics and abilities!

One amiibo, multiple games
•We plan to continue support of the Shovel Knight amiibo in future Yacht Club Games and Nintendo products! Stay tuned to for compatibility details in new games.

In other Shovel Knight news, Yacht Club Games has released the first gameplay trailer for the upcoming Plague of Shadows DLC, a free update coming to all platforms in September which will introduce Plague Knight as a playable character, along with unique gameplay abilities and remixed game content. That trailer, as well as the amiibo reveal trailer made by Game Grumps, can be viewed below. (Ugh, Game Grumps. Sorry, I think they’re complexly obnoxious and unfunny.)
