Inspired by games and movies like Descent, Star Wars, Tron, and even Super Mario Galaxy, Tri-Coastal Games is entering the final stretch in the development of the two-man studio’s omnidirectional, neon-retro spaceship shooter Dystoria. After two years of work, the six-axis blast-em-up will release February 21st on Steam at a price point of $14.99.
Dystoria promises a mix of arcade shooter action and brain-twisting puzzles as players pilot spacecraft capable of hovering on any surface, in any direction. The object is to collect orbs, destroy all enemies, and then reach the exit in one piece. A synth wave soundtrack and Tron-like neon wireframe aesthetic bring a distinct 80s vibe to the party. A sci-fi storyline is said to play an important role as well, though plot details are vague at the moment. Some level of mystery before diving into a game is always a good thing though.
