Sonic’s Ultimate Genesis Collection Brings 40+ Sega Classics to PS3, X360 Next Year

This coming spring Sega will have a real treat for Genesis fans. Sonic’s Ultimate Genesis Collection, announced today for a Spring 2009 release on PS3 and Xbox 360, will amass 40 classic first-party Sega Genesis titles (and even a few unlockables from the 8-bit Master System and 1980’s arcade era) into one killer compilation. The largest compilation Sega’s ever produced, in fact.

To name but a few, titles featured in the compilation will include Sonic the Hedgehog, Columns, Ecco the Dolphin, Shinobi III, Space Harrier, Streets of Rage, Golden Axe, Comix Zone, and Vectorman. All games in the compilation will be authentic ports true to the original games, though thankfully they will support output in 720p resolution and look better than ever in crisp HD.

Both versions will retail for a mere $30 and support achievements/trophies, unlockable bonus content, and local multiplayer modes. Hit the jump for the compilation’s confirmed list of included Genesis titles.

“Sonic’s Ultimate Genesis Collection is a must-have for any die-hard SEGA fan,” says Sean Ratcliffe, Vice President of Marketing for SEGA of America, Inc “Fans have been chomping at the bit to get a chance to relive fond memories from these classic games, that time has come and it’s being presented this time in HD.”
