Sega has announced the development of Sonic Rivals 2 for the PSP today, the sequel to last year’s debut Sonic Rivals title, which was a solid game and a pleasant surprise given the underwhelming quality of other recent Sonic titles.
Sonic Rivals 2 will come packed with a number of new features over the original, including a “revamped rival ‘jostling’ gameplay system” that promises tighter competition, an all-new Battle mode letting two players compete in six different multiplayer events (Knockout, Ring Battle, Race, King of the Hill, Capture the Chao, and Tag) using only one disc via game sharing over the PSP’s wireless connection, and a new single-player Free play mode that drops the head-to-head action of the main game in favor of old-school Sonic platforming. Along with all that, three new characters, 12 new stages, expanded card collection and character customization functions, and updated power-ups and signature moves are also being worked in.
Sonic Rivals 2 is slated for release this November. We’ll keep you posted as new information and media surfaces.
