Man, Sony’s gone crazy with the hardware announcements this morning. No more PSP or PS3 bundles to announce, but I do need to tell you about this, the new Wireless Keypad for PS3. Scheduled for North American release in the busy (and getting busier) month of November (it’ll also be out in Japan, Europe and Asia by end of the year), the Bluetooth keypad clips onto the face of any existing Sixaxis or DualShock 3 controller and adds intuitive text chatting to replace the PS3’s rather unintuitive soft keyboard. It’ll support text chat across all online titles — LittleBigPlanet and PlayStation Home being the two big guns Sony’s mainly hyping the product for — and feature two shortcut buttons to instantly jump to XMB features like your friends list and message box. At the push of a button, the “entire surface of the keypad” can also somehow magically turn into a finger touch pad allowing for easier web browsing. Neato!
A specific ship date and retail price have yet to be announced, but you can expect to hear regional availability info from Sony soon.
