Within the past week, SouthPeak Games has announced publishing plans for two new titles. First up is X-Blades, an anime-inspired third-person hack-and-slash game currently in development for a late ’08 release on PC and next-gen consoles.

“The unique anime backdrop combined with the high-octane gameplay really takes X-Blades into brand new territory,” said Melanie Mroz, CEO of SouthPeak Games. “This genre needs a fresh take and this game delivers.”

“We are big fans of anime and that was really our inspiration for X-Blades,” said James Seaman, Managing Director at TopWare Interactive. “Our goal was to create stylistic characters and artwork, and mix that with lightning fast action. The result is a killer title that gamers and animation fans won’t be able to put down.”

Then there is Mister Slime, a cute DS-exclusive 2D side-scroller/platformer in development at indie European studio Lexis Numérique for a release in April. In the game, you’ll play as Mister Slime on a mission to defend Slime Village from the evil Axons, using the stylus and touch screen to “navigate the levels by dragging and stretching Mister Slime’s arms to grab hold of small anchor points scattered throughout the game.” The DS microphone will also be utilized for interesting control mechanics, such as blowing to make Mister Slime fly or breath under water, and there’ll be both single and multiplayer modes.

“Fresh, tactile, fun, and addictive. That is what Mister Slime is all about,” said Katie Morgan, Executive Vice President of SouthPeak Games. “The title’s creative features, imaginative characters, and great storyline make for a crazy, one-of-a-kind, can’t-put-it-down gameplay experience. Mister Slime is awesome right from the get-go.”

“We wanted to take an old-school 2D side-scroller and update it with innovative features and gameplay specific to the platform,” said Djamil Kemal, Development Director at Lexis Numérique. “The advanced physics engine combined with elasticity, and interaction with many different objects creates a very engaging gameplay experience. There is nothing else out there like it.”
