Square Enix Remastering Chrono Trigger for DS!

Love it or hate it, Square Enix just keeps on plugging away at remakes and ports of its most prized and beloved titles of yore. I hardly think anyone could be mad at ’em for this one, though. Next up on Square Enix’s remake tour is the classic SNES RPG Chrono Trigger. As announced this week, it is being updated for a holiday season release on the DS. From the sound of it, much of the game is being kept true to the original, only adding “portability, dual-screen presentation and Touch-Screen functionality” and a new dungeon and Wireless Play mode to spice it up a tiny bit.

Other than that, everything is remaining the same, or so it seems. No updated 3D graphics, voice acting, cut scenes or anything like that. At least not that has been made known at this time. All’s Square Enix is giving us for now is the following story and feature overview and an informationless teaser website.

When a newly developed teleportation device malfunctions at the Millennial Fair, young Crono must travel through time to rescue his misfortunate companion from an intricate web of past and present perils. The swashbuckling adventure that ensues soon unveils an evil force set to destroy the world, triggering Crono’s race against time to change the course of history and bring about a brighter future.
