State of Decay: Year-One Survival Edition Infects Xbox One (and Steam) in April, Returning Survivors Get a Discount and Exclusive Character

It’s official: the zombie outbreak will spread to Xbox One on April 28th, holding true to the spring 2015 launch timeframe laid out when State of Decay: Year-One Survival Edition, which is also coming to PC via Steam, was first revealed last August.

Microsoft and Undead Labs have also announced what amounts to a loyalty rewards offer for players who already bought the original Xbox 360 version. When upgrading to Xbox One, existing players will receive a 33% discount on the full MSRP of $29.99. (So basically that’ll be $20 instead of $30.) Additionally, returning players will receive exclusive access to a new playable character named Gurubani Kaur.

I’m assuming PC players will get a similar upgrade offer, but at this time the information I have on hand only mentions Xbox platforms. I sent a tweet out to Undead Labs for clarification and will update this page if/when a response is given.

More information about Gurubani, the discount offer, and other Year-One Survival Edition features are outlined below, per a Microsoft PR fact sheet, followed by an updated screenshot gallery. You can learn even more about the game by reading Xbox Wire’s interview with Undead Labs founder Jeff Strain.

Features:
– Upgrade plan for Xbox 360 “State of Decay” owners
“State of Decay” Xbox 360 owners will receive a 33 percent discount on “State of Decay: Year-One Survival Edition.” The discount will end June 30, 2015. To qualify for the discount, players must have purchased the base game, “State of Decay,” and have the same active Xbox Live account when “State of Decay: Year-One Survival Edition” becomes available for purchase on Xbox One.

– An exclusive new character for all “State of Decay” owners
Gurubani Kaur used to be a wild child in college, but the outbreak sparked a return to the faith of her youth. She was born in Punjab, but moved to America before she learned to talk. Her weapon of choice is an old Indian cavalry sword that her father kept as an antique.
To acquire Gurubani, players must have purchased the base game, “State of Decay,” and have the same active Xbox Live account when “State of Decay: Year-One Survival Edition” becomes available for purchase on Xbox One.

– All ‘first-year’ content completely remastered
The original “State of Decay,” along with major add-ons “Breakdown” and “Lifeline,” is fully-remastered in stunning 1080p. Improved lighting, textures, and shadows bring the faded beauty of Trumbull Valley and the ravaged city of Danforth to life like never before. Animations and combat mechanics are completely over-hauled to add a new level of intensity and action. Hundreds of a smaller improvements to core game systems make “State of Decay: Year-One Edition” a must-have.
