Steam Summer Sale 2013 is a Go!

All signs have been pointing to today marking the start of the annual Steam summer sale. Those signs were correct.

The 2013 Steam Summer Getaway Sale is officially under way as of 1PM EST, and is scheduled to run from today through the same time on July 22nd. Like always, the sale consists of Daily Deals that will rotate every 24 hours, Flash Sales every eight hours, Community’s Choice deals which open further game discounts up to a community vote every eight hours, as well as blanket discounts across the Steam catalog.

Here’s a recap of what’s currently on sale for day 1:

– Endless Space 66% off
– Antichamber 66% off
– Hotline Miami 75% off
– Scribblenauts Unlimited 75% off
– Don’t Starve 40% off

As expected after recently emerging from beta testing, Steam Trading Cards will factor heavily into the summer sale activities. First and foremost, between yesterday and today, 12 new games have received Trading Card sets, including: BioShock Infinite, Hotline Miami, Scribblenauts Unlimited, Defiance, Toki Tori 2+, Mars: War Logs, Dark, Dungeons of Dredmor, The Night of the Rabbit, McPixel, Ion Assault, and Drunken Robot Pornography. Bastion was initially listed as well but has since been removed.

More than just new individual game sets, Valve is offering a Summer Getaway Trading Card set and badge including 10 special cards that can only be obtained by participating in the sale in various ways. For example, you will earn one Summer Getaway card for every game badge you create during the sale period, and all “mystery cards” you have earned since July 3rd will be turned into Summer Getaway cards. Additional Summer Getaway cards can be earned one per every $10 spent during the sale. And if your Steam level is 5 or above, you’ll score another card for every third vote you cast in the Community’s Choice Flash Sale. Or of course there’s always trading with friends and the Steam Marketplace.

I don’t know about you, but it sure looks like I’ll be burning through my Steam wallet more than ever this summer. But at least this time I have some supplemental income from selling off Trading Cards to keep my bank and Paypal accounts from taking too big of a dent.

If you don’t have much cash to burn this summer, stay tuned here at VGBlogger for regular Steam key giveaways throughout the sale. The plan is to give away a game a day, but I’m still digging through my stock to see what’s available to work with.
