After weeks (if not months) of anticipation, Midway has released the playable demo for the Xbox 360 version of Stranglehold to the Xbox Live Marketplace, and quite frankly it’s the best overall game demo I’ve played in a long time. Besides looking gorgeous and being just one hell of a fun shoot-em-up (the Precision Aiming feature is SO bad ass), the demo actually lasts long enough to give you a solid idea of how the full game will turn out, which is a rare occurrence these days (that painfully brief Heavenly Sword demo as a prime example). The demo is loaded with action, story cut scenes and lots and lots of blood and exploding objects, and there are even unlockable difficulty settings to promote multiple play throughs — how many demos have you seen offer that? A cool gameplay trailer runs at the end as a little reward too.
If you haven’t done so yet, go fire up your 360 and check it out for yourself. The file size is nearly a gig and a half if I remember correctly, so you better start downloading now because it takes a while — I know I had to leave my system running all afternoon. It’s so worth the wait though, that’s for sure.
