Rumored collaborations between Capcom and Namco Bandai have been confirmed this weekend at Comic-Con, with the two companies announcing a pair of Street Fighter vs. Tekken crossover fighters.
Capcom is developing Street Fighter X Tekken (pronounced Street Fighter cross Tekken) using the same technology, art style and 2D gameplay behind Street Fighter IV and Super Street Fighter IV, while Namco Bandai is developing Tekken X Street Fighter with Tekken‘s 3D engine and fighting style. I’m not sure how this is all going to work out since these two franchises play so differently from one another, but it sure is an intriguing mashup on paper.
Both titles are in development for PS3 and Xbox 360. Release dates have not been announced, but neither will be out until after Marvel vs. Capcom 3. So, we’re probably looking at a fall 2011 release at the earliest.
The first trailer and screenshots for Street Fighter X Tekken are below. I’ll let you know as soon as Namco Bandai reveals more about its side of the crossover.
