Konami checks in today with new details for its forthcoming DS RPG Suikoden: Tierkreis, specifically in regards to the game’s online mode, described as follows:
Suikoden: Tierkreis features a robust online mode allowing players to send their character to another player’s parallel world through the door to the Infinity via WiFi. The character will be hired to complete a quest by another player and when the quest is complete or time is up, the original player will receive the outcome with their character. This is a fun and interesting way for gamers to level up characters, with both players receiving rewards for completing the quests.
So in summation, players can exchange their character with a friend via Wi-Fi, have the other player complete quests with their character and then return him/her with loot and bonus exp. Certain rare loot items and a special boss battle will only be found in the online mode as well.
You can look forward to trying out this online character swapping feature when Suikoden: Tierkreis ships on March 17th. Check the gallery below for the latest screenshots.
This looks interesting – I recently played the Suikoden PSN game on my PSP … cool PSx game!
Glad to hear you liked the PSN re-release of the first game! Hopefully Tierkreis gets the series heading back in the right direction. The first three were excellent, but the past few (IV, V and Tactics) have been pretty lousy.
That is too bad – I had never heard of it other than in passing, but when it was offered on the PSN I saw it was a well-regarded PSx franchise. Didn’t look further. So is this a continuation of the prior franchise stories / elements?
Oh yeah, Suikoden is a huge console RPG series, more with fans than the mainstream. It’s sorta like a cult equivalent to the Final Fantasy franchise.
All the games take place in the same universe and each one takes place at a different time in that universe’s history. None of them directly continue the story of another that I remember, but they all generally share the same core elements.
I really haven’t heard much about where Tierkreis fits in with the others, but it’s described as taking place in a “parallel world” to that of the main PSX/PS2 series, so I’d say that makes it more of a spin-off. Still sounds like it carries over many of the same core elements though.
