November 15th may be PlayStation 4 launch day and all, but for PC gamers and role-playing game enthusiasts there is something even more important happening on that day. In case you forgot, that’s when Baldur’s Gate II: Enhanced Edition comes out (for Windows and Mac), a game with more depth and quality than probably every PS4 launch game combined. It’s the greatest RPG ever created as far as I’m concerned.
If you adore Baldur’s Gate II as much as I do, you’re gonna be amped through the roof to check out these new Enhanced Edition screenshots and desktop wallpapers. Beamdog’s even uploaded three 20-second music samples from the game’s soundtrack, which you can also listen to below. From what I can tell these are teasers of the themes for three of the four new party allies Overhaul Games is adding to this updated re-release.

At long last, Baldur’s Gate II, arguably the greatest role-playing video game ever made (I’m one who would argue that it is), is getting the Enhanced Edition treatment that its predecessor received last year.
Confirmed today by its creator Overhaul Games, Baldur’s Gate II: Enhanced Edition will launch November 15th for Windows and Mac, with mobile versions for iPad and Android to follow at a later date. Beamdog pre-orders are available now for $24.95.
Like the first game, BG2‘s Enhanced Edition will contain the full main campaign, Shadows of Amn, as well as its expansion, Throne of Bhaal. Completely new content and improvements will also be added to the mix, such as new party members, new maps, remastered artwork, interface tweaks, and so on.
More content specifics along with the game’s first trailer are posted below. Sign up for future updates at www.baldursgateii.com.

– Four New Party Members: Bundled with the PC and Mac versions and available as DLC for iPad and Android, four new characters can join you on your journey. At the behest of his dark patron, Dorn Il-Khan plunders and defiles the Sword Coast. Hunted by Red Wizards, Neera the Wild Mage evades and disrupts the Thayans at every turn. Exercising his growing combat mastery, the monk Rasaad yn Bashir leaves his former allies to hunt the dark figure that corrupted his brother. A mysterious thief in service to mysterious master seeks powerful artifacts from across the globe. Recruit them, use their powers, and uncover over 30 new locations.
– The Black Pits 2: Gladiators of Thay: Explore the tactical depth of high-level Dungeons & Dragons combat. Undermine your captors and prey upon their weaknesses while you dodge traps and battle for your life against Demi-Liches, Mind Flayers, and Githyanki.
– Easy Multiplayer: Baldur’s Gate II: Enhanced Edition makes it easy to find, list, and join multiplayer games, even while behind a firewall.
– Widescreen and More: Baldur’s Gate II: Enhanced Edition features full widescreen support, remastered area artwork from original renders, and a host of other interface and gameplay improvements.
After seven long years, a dedicated team of modders sharing absolutely no affiliation with Bioware, Obsidian, Wizards of the Coast, or Atari, has launched Baldur’s Gate: Reloaded. This has nothing to do with the recent Baldur’s Gate: Enhanced Edition remake. Reloaded is a fan-made remake of the original Baldur’s Gate role-playing classic and its Tales of the Sword Coast expansion pack, built from scratch as a mod for Neverwinter Nights 2.
Baldur’s Gate: Reloaded is completely free to download, but you will need to own copies of Neverwinter Nights 2 and its two expansion packs, Mask of the Betrayer and Storm of Zehir. Nothing will ever top the vintage 2D art of the original Baldur’s Gate games, but seeing the Sword Coast fully realized in 3D–even on an outdated engine–is seriously impressive. Sounds like it’s time to dig through some boxes and find out where my old disc copy of NWN2 is hiding. (After surviving the E3 barrage first of course.)

The 2012 holiday season has thus far been packed with high profile games. Black Ops II. Assassin’s Creed III. Halo 4. PlayStation All-Stars. The Wii U.
But for many gamers, particularly of the old school persuasion, these mainstream blockbusters pale in comparison to today’s PC release of Baldur’s Gate: Enhanced Edition, a remastered re-release of one of gaming’s all-time great RPGs. You can go download it right now from Beamdog for $19.99!
In addition to the new characters and locations, an upgraded version of the Infinity Engine, and numerous interface and core game improvements, the Enhanced Edition also features updated cinematics that have been redone with hand painted animations. If you haven’t downloaded the game yet, click play below to see the new style on display in the game’s opening intro sequence. (And here’s the original version for comparison.)
