Screenshot Saturday: God of War: Ascension, Black Ops II & Dueling Mascot Racers Dishonored by an Unfinished Swan

Multiplayer in God of War? I know, it still doesn’t sound quite right. But Sony Santa Monica has revealed its competitive ambitions for the next PlayStation 3 mythological adventure, and here you’ll find the first screenshots showing teams of Kratos wannabes fighting for the right to slay a giant cyclops.

Not to be outdone, Activision came through with the completely expected news that Call of Duty: Black Ops II is exploding onto the gaming scene this fall. The near-future Cold War premise with horseback riding and unmanned drones turned into an army of robot invaders? Now that stuff wasn’t so predictable.

For mascot kart racing fans, new screenshots for Sonic & All-Stars Racing Transformed and LittleBigPlanet Karting crossed the finish line this week. Bethesda also dropped off a screen-grab six-pack for awesome-looking first-person action game Dishonored and, proving once again that games are art, Giant Sparrow presented its beautifully abstract first-person painting adventure game, The Unfinished Swan. Just one more artsy PlayStation Network exclusive to watch out for, folks.

First Peek at Blood Bowl DS

Thus far, Cyanide has been focused more on pushing the PC and Xbox 360 versions of its upcoming strategy football game Blood Bowl, leaving many to wonder how the game’s portable versions are coming along. While the PSP version remains in hiding, the DS version has finally come out to play with these new screenshots.

Tie up your cleats, strap on your pads and button your chinstraps, ladies and gents. The Ultimate Blood Bowl trailer has arrived, and it’ll knock the snot out of you if you aren’t prepared. All those CG teasers were nice, but we want to see gameplay action. And that’s just what this ultimate trailer delivers: three minutes of footage showing the game’s real-time and turn-based play styles, in-depth team customization options, and brutal, no-holds-barred atmosphere. Oh, and it’s got Goblins with chainsaws…I’m sold!

Super Bowl hype week is now in full effect with the Steelers and Cardinals in Tampa suffering through the bombardment of media coverage leading up to the big game, and Focus Home and Cyanide are using this time to promote their upcoming Warhammer football strategy game Blood Bowl, currently slated for Q2 2009 release on PC, Xbox 360, DS and PSP. The span between today and Friday is now officially the “Four Days of Blood Bowl”, and as each day dawns a new trailer will be released. The week-long Blood Bowl celebration begins with this Goblin team intro trailer.

Warhammer crossed with American football. It’s an odd mix, for sure. But it worked as a tabletop board game, so who knows, it could very well work great as a video game, too. From this first-ever trailer, I sure like the direction Blood Bowl is heading in, but from a gameplay perspective I still need to see more of how it’ll function as either a turn-based or real-time game before I get too excited. This footage only encompasses the PC and Xbox 360 versions as well. The DS and PSP versions have yet to be shown in any form.
