Capcom’s Captivate showcase event headlines this weekend’s edition of Screenshot Saturday, hot new galleries now available for Resident Evil 6, DmC – Devil May Cry, Lost Planet 3, Dragon’s Dogma, Resident Evil: Chronicles HD Collection, Steel Battalion: Heavy Armor and the Vita version of Street Fighter X Tekken. Capcom sure is rockin’ one helluva game lineup this year!

Other showstoppers this week include the newly announced PC version of Dark Souls, the Xbox 360 version of The Witcher 2 (it rocks, by the way), Metal Gear Solid HD Collection on the Vita, and PS3 free-to-play MMO FPS DUST 514.

Rounding things out are screenshots from the latest wave of Final Fantasy XIII-2 DLC, Ghost Recon Future Soldier’s multiplayer mode, Aksys Games’ black-and-white Nintendo 3DS puzzler Shifting World, PSP tactical RPG Gungnir (yes, there still are new PSP games coming!), the PC version of CryENGINE 3 arena FPS Nexuiz (which just entered public beta), and Xbox 360 music game BandFuse: Rock Legends.

Slowly but surely, every game I’ve been wanting to sell me on buying a Kinect has released to horrible results. Steel Battalion: Heavy Armor is one of the last shimmering rays of hope on the horizon, mainly because it’s not dumbing down a traditional gameplay style with a forced Kinect-only control scheme but rather using simple gestures to expand command over the game’s Vertical Tanks which are predominantly piloted using the regular Xbox 360 controller. That sounds more like a Kinect game I can get into.

Another cool thing just announced for Steel Battalion: Heavy Armor is an online four-player co-op mode. Vertical Tank pilots will join forces on the battlefield to destroy a set number of enemies, unlock VT customization kits, and play in a Score Attack mode for performance bragging rights. Check out the two videos on this page to see the co-op gameplay in action.

Lost Planet 3 once again takes place on E.D.N. III, but goes back before the events of the first game to reveal the planet’s deeper history in a more story-driven campaign than what was offered in Lost Planet 2. New hero Jim, a blue collar rig pilot contracted by Neo-Venus Construction, will face fearsome Akrid in third-person combat on foot and in first-person utility rig (AKA mech suit) battles.

Using Unreal Engine 3 tech, Spark Unlimited is developing Lost Planet 3 for an early 2013 release on PC, PS3 and Xbox 360.

Delays happen with almost daily regularity in the game development biz, but it’s rare for game releases to be moved up to an earlier date when a launch has already been set, particularly when dealing with high profile franchises. So this week’s big news that Resident Evil 6 is actually shipping out (on consoles at least) earlier than previously planned comes as a truly pleasant surprise.

Resident Evil 6 was initially going to launch November 20th on PS3 and Xbox 360, with a PC version to follow. Now it’s locked into a new date of October 2nd, well over a month ahead of the original schedule. That applies to the console versions, of course. (Yep, the PC version is still hovering in to-follow mode.)

Sounds groovy to me. The further out more games can get from the holiday crush that really kicks into high gear in November, the better, if you ask me. Space between big game releases is good. The new date also puts the game on store shelves in plenty of time for Halloween gaming festivities–although I’m not sure how relevant that thematic link is any more since there isn’t much horror left in this increasingly action-focused series, even if zombies are making a comeback in this installment.

With the launch date shift, Capcom also delivers a thrilling new cinematic trailer. No gameplay to see here, but plenty of dramatic moments and story revelations. Leon and Chris slugging it out? Sweet! Wesker has a son? Gasp!

For the life of me, I still can’t grasp why so many gamers continue to hate on this one. Sure, Dante looks a little different, but that’s only because this is a younger, even more rebellious Dante. And besides, he still has the same emo-punk attitude and stylish demon-slaying moves he’s always had. I’ve been a Devil May Cry fan since launch day of game #1, and I absolutely love what I see Ninja Theory doing with DmC. I haven’t been this excited for a game in the series since the original.

When Street Fighter X Tekken punches and kicks its way onto PlayStation Vita later this fall, on-the-go fighters will be able to duke it out against couch-potato brawlers via newly announced cross-platform support which is set to bridge the multiplayer fisticuffs between Vita and PS3. Local, Wi-Fi or 3G, it doesn’t matter. Vita players will be able to take on PS3 players, anytime, anyplace.

12 additional fighters are also being added to the Vita version, upping the current console roster of 43 to 55. Blanka, Cody, Dudley, Elena, Guy and Sakura join the cross-over fray from Street Fighter, matched up against Tekken familiar faces Alisa Bosconovitch, Bryan Fury, Christie Monteiro, Jack, Lars Alexandersson and Lei Wulong. Even cooler, existing owners of the PS3 version who decide to also buy a copy of the game on Vita will unlock these extra characters as free DLC for the PS3. In fact, all DLC will be shareable between platforms from a single purchase. A save data link will allow for edit and customization files to be transferred as well.

Capcom is also enhancing the Vita version with touch controls and Near functionality along with other brand new modes and features to be announced throughout the remainder of the year leading up to the game’s launch.
