Exciting day if you’re an EA Sports nut with demos for both Madden NFL 09 and FaceBreaker now being released. Both are currently up on Xbox Live and will be going live with today’s PS3 PlayStation Store update.
At 1.1GB, the Madden 09 demo provides the chance to try out the new Virtual Trainer feature and play in a Madden Moment recreating the NY Giants’ last-minute drive to dethrone the New England Patriots in this past season’s Super Bowl. The FaceBreaker demo, weighing in at a hefty 955MB, features five fighters — main characters Ice, Sparrow and Steve and “celeb” fighters Peter Moore and Kim Kardashian — and two arenas — cave and trailer park — to pummel away with in practice or a 1-round bout. The game’s create-a-boxer and Photo Game Face are available in limited form as well. EA also sent along 10 new FaceBreaker screens to accompany the demo news. Hit the jump for the gallery.

Oh and by the way. If you happen to be tuning in to tonight’s “GameTrailers TV with Geoff Keighley” for the RE5 footage, you’ll also be in for another treat. Keighley and EA Sports President Peter Moore will be squaring off in Facebreaker, EA’s upcoming arcade boxing title, using custom-designed characters modeled in their likenesses. Who are you putting your money on?

Apparently EA Sports BIG wasn’t a good enough sub-brand for EA’s lighter side of athletic gaming, as EA today announced the start of a brand new sports sub-brand called EA Sports Freestyle, a label dedicated to a “growing, more casual sports gaming audience.” The arcade boxing title FaceBreaker will be the first EA Sports Freestyle branded release when it ships in September, with two additional unannounced IPs due out sometime within the next 12 months.
]]>“The launch of EA SPORTS Freestyle is an exciting milestone in the evolution of the EA SPORTS brand,” said Peter Moore, president, EA SPORTS. “EA SPORTS Freestyle will be a perfect complement to our core portfolio of games that our loyal fans are deeply passionate about, and will provide compelling opportunities for new audiences looking for a lighter gaming experience and an easier entry point into EA SPORTS.”
