The time has finally come to wrap up this little media guide series rounding up all the sweet new PSN titles Sony had to show off at E3, and I’m closing it out with a bang with two of the more action-oriented tiles coming to the PS3 Network. Crash Commando was one of the completely brand new titles Sony unveiled, and as a 12-player side-scrolling online shoot ’em up with tons of gore it’s sure to offer one hell of a rockin’ good time. PAIN: Amusement Park, on the other hand, had already been announced prior to E3 and is actually an add-on pack to PAIN, the original comedic action game of rag-doll physics exploitation. It could just as easily be its own game, though, what with the addition of five new modes, multiplayer support, and a new amusement park setting that is sure to lead to even more PAIN-ful hilarity.

OVERVIEW
The PAIN expansion pack is more PAINful than ever! This time, we are leaving Downtown and headed to the AMUSEMENT PARK! New to PAIN is online multiplayer mode play and 5 crazy modes to enjoy. The AMUSEMENT PARK still has the same creative, skill-driven comedic experience that presents players with the unique opportunity to control and capture the irreverent style of humor found in slapstick movies and online video clips. But now you are in a whole new PAIN-filled environment!
The Amusement Park keeps the same core, unique PAIN mechanic which allows the player to load characters into an extreme launching device, (this time a broken ride). Fire the character through physics controlled environments such as the “Tilt-a-Hurl, Deuces Wild, and Booty of the Sea”.
Receive points by stringing together PAINful collisions and inducing chaos in the environment. The player must achieve a wide variety of goals and / or reach various scoring milestones in each of the different modes of play. As challenging as it is funny, PAIN includes online leaderboards and has trophy support so you can see where you rank between your friends and throughout the world.
New Modes for PAIN Amusement Park include:
HOT n COLD: A single player puzzle game where the player must find the hidden teddy bear target within the Amusement Park. Each teddy bear detonated by the player returns a message of Hot or cold giving the player clues to the location of the hidden bear.
Clown Toss: A single player game based on Mime Toss. Glass planes are replaced with exploding barrels and the floating Mime is replaced with a Clown bouncing on a pogo stick.
Fun with Explosives: A multi-player game for up to 4 different players. Launch into an environment and attempt to detonate as many explosives as possible.
Trauma: A multi-player game mode that challenges players to cause as much pain to themselves and others as possible. Think the game Go head-to-head with friends and see if they can make all the same elaborate launches.
Call the Shot: A multi-player game mode that lets players challenge each other by choosing a set of two to four objects to hit in a single launch. The more difficult the shot, the more points the challenged player will earn.

Before game developer Mark Healey went on to found Media Molecule and begin work on LittleBigPlanet, he essentially one-man-developed the indie cult classic Rag Doll Kung Fu, a PC party fighting game, ala Smash Bros., noted for its unique art style and hilarious ragdoll physics. Fighting games tend to not work so well with mouse and keyboard controls (or mouse only controls in this game’s case), though, so reception towards the actual gameplay was mixed. But now Rag Doll Kung Fu is making a comeback exclusively as a downloadable PSN title for PS3, and with more fighting game friendly console controls it promises to be better than ever.
Rag Doll Kung Fu: Fists of Plastic, as the new PSN version is officially titled, is based on the original PC game but is being developed anew by Tarsier Studios. From the early screenshots and trailer (hit the jump to check those out), the game appears to be running on the LittleBigPlanet engine, although I don’t know if that’s true or not. What I do know, however, is that Rag Doll Kung Fu: Fists of Plastic looks great and is sure to be a blast to play.

After the jaw-dropping graphical displays put on this year by God of War: Chains of Olympus and Crisis Core, I honestly couldn’t imagine PSP games looking any better. But clearly the PSP still has plenty of power left to be tapped into, at least if Sony Bend’s upcoming Resistance: Retribution is any indication. I mean just look at these screenshots and the unveil trailer, the game looks almost too good to be true!
Resistance: Retribution isn’t just about graphical bells and whistles, however. With Sony Bend Studio, the team behind the exquisite Syphon Filter PSP titles, you can rest assured that solid gameplay will be in place to back up the pretty visuals. Unlike the FPS style of the two PS3 games, Retribution is actually a third-person shooter packed with all-new weapons, enemies, environments and a storyline that follows British Marine James Grayson in events that follow shortly after Resistance: Fall of Man and lead into Resistance 2. As you’d expect from a Sony Bend PSP effort, local and online multiplayer will be a strong selling point, too. You can look forward to engaging in eight-player, human-vs-Chimera battles in five different match types, you’ll just have to wait a while because Resistance: Retribution won’t be on store shelves until spring 2009. But trust me, it’ll be well worth the wait.

The war against the Chimera just got personal.
OVERVIEW
Developed by SCEA’s award winning Bend Studio, Resistance: Retribution is a third-person adventure designed specifically for the PSP® (PlayStation®Portable) handheld entertainment system. Utilizing their expertise in creating high quality titles for the PSP, Bend Studio has created an all new story, levels, weapons and enemies, as well as a proprietary targeting system that takes full advantage of the PSP control system. Their third generation PSP game engine pushes the system to its limit, allowing more detailed characters, special effects, and terrain that captures the look and feel of the Resistance universe on the portable system.
STORYLINE
Set in the weeks after Resistance: Fall of Man®, Resistance: Retribution follows the story of former British Marine James Grayson. After a personal tragedy – he is forced to kill his own brother inside a Chimeran conversion center – Grayson goes on a vendetta to destroy every conversion center he can find. Eventually Grayson learns that his efforts have been futile… in Western Europe the Chimera have evolved a new method of converting humans to aliens. The European resistance – the Maquis – enlist Grayson’s help, and he joins Cartwright and Parker in Operation Overstrike. The war to retake the European continent has begun.
KEY FEATURES
• Game: A third person action-adventure game created specifically for PSP that bridges Resistance: Fall of Man and Resistance 2
.
• Storyline: Dramatic storyline set against the battle to retake the European continent, follows a single soldier’s grim determination to avenge his fallen brother.
• Engine: Utilizes Bend Studio’s third generation PSP engine that allows for more enemies on screen, more detailed characters with higher resolution bitmaps and specular highlights, and a memory buffer system that allows for larger and more detailed worlds.

• Portability: Liberal checkpoint system makes the title ideal for small bursts of gameplay perfect for the on-the-go gamer.
• Weaponry: Weapons include favorites from Resistance: Fall of Man like the Auger, Carbine, and LAARK, as well as new weapons based on hybrid Alien/Human technology – including the BM001 Razor and the Longbow 1S-1K “One shot, one kill” sniper rifle.

and Resistance: Fall of Man – including the Titan, Slipskull, Hybrids and Leapers – and all new enemies like the Hag and Cloven.
• Multiplayer: Intense eight player multiplayer gameplay with five game modes including Team Deathmatch, Capture the Flag, Containment and Assimilation available via ad-hoc and infrastructure.
• Resistance Franchise: Web based franchise that ties into the Resistance franchise web portal.
Ratchet & Clank Future: Quest for Booty, debuted during Sony’s E3 press conference, is yet another prime example of how the PlayStation Network is rapidly becoming the premiere downloadable game service. Quest for Booty is a tidy standalone extension to last year’s PS3 hit Ratchet & Clank Future: Tools of Destruction, offering a brand new adventure in Insomniac’s acclaimed R&C franchise in a bite-sized portion to act as an enticer for new players to get a taste of what the series is all about and provide diehard fans a little extra time with their favorite lombax and robot sidekick until the next true sequel comes along. Don’t expect some slapped together game just because it’s coming to PSN either. Quest for Booty will feature plenty of content and mechanics that are entirely brand new to the series and the same near-Pixar-quality graphics that Tools of Destruction wowed us with.
Screenshots, unveil video and fact sheet await your attentive eyes on the jump.

Populous DS Fact Sheet
Title: Populous DS
Publisher: XSEED Games
Platform: Nintendo DS
Release Date: Fall 2008
UPC: TBD
Genre: Strategy
Player: 1 – 4 players
In the beginning, there was nothing but a void, and from the void five gods created the world, each exercising their great power to shape the world with five different but brilliant colors.
Earth created the basis for all things; Water soothed it; Fire imbrued it with vitality; Wind breathed into it freedom; Harvest provided it with nourishment.
Fish, beasts, and finally beings called man came into existence. The power of the gods brought harmony among all living things and the world gave way to an age of glory.
However, prosperity created darkness in the hearts of man, and from that darkness demons were birthed. The demons controlled the same five elements as the gods and rose against them. A chaotic battle for the world had begun.
Thus opened the gates of an age of darkness, where man trembles in fear, helpless as the awesome powers rage around them. It marked the beginning of a long-lasting age that would test their faith between the gods and the demons.
A completely re-imagined remake of the PC classic that launched the god-sim genre, “Populous DS” brings the power of the gods into the palm of the player’s hands. The unique features of the Nintendo DS improve upon the original as touch-screen controls, dual-screens, and versus play with up to 4 players wirelessly have been implemented. The gameplay is fresh for returning players as multiple gods each with their own unique miracles have been added, while returning fans will recognize the classic maps from previous editions of Populous in homage to this legendary series.
KEY FEATURES
– A Classis is reborn on the DS! – The interface is built around the stylus and touch-screen controls while retaining the feel of the classic. Actions taken on the bottom screen play out on the top screen.
– Additional Gods and Miracles – 5 different elementally imbued gods, each with their own unique miracles and demon counterpart, are now selectable rather than just one.
– More Single-Player Missions and Variety – Challenge Mode with 50 missions to clear as well as Free Play Mode including a “Find The Warrior” mini-game.
– 4-Player Wireless Multiplayer – Versus Mode allows up to 4 players to compete unleashing disasters such as earthquakes, tidal waves and volcanic eruptions to wreck havoc on opponents’ lands!
– A Must-Have for Populous Fans – The most popular and classic maps from previous editions pay homage to the roots of the legendary series.
Fat Princess has to be the coolest fucking game concept I’ve seen in years. Just chew on this for a moment. In the game you and up to 31 other players will do battle medieval style in 16-vs-16 online team-based arcade wars with the ultimate goal to rescue your princess being held captive in the depths of the other team’s castle dungeon. The thing is, the enemy captors have fattened the princess up so you won’t be able to simply waltz in and run her to safety like a game of capture the flag. She’s so fat that you and your teammates will have to work in unison to figure out how to not only rescue her, but transport her fat, tub-of-lard behind back across the battlefield to your castle. You can’t tell me that’s not pure gaming brilliance!
What sets Fat Princess apart even more than its genius gameplay concept, though, is its comically over the top art style and extreme cartoonish gore. Peak at the first screenshots below to see what I mean, then hit the jump for a fact sheet full of even more game details.

In order to triumph, players must combine their skills and work together. Both games sport incredibly stylized visuals, and PixelJunk Eden will even support trophies and PSP remote play. Those sound unique enough for you?

OVERVIEW
The pioneers that brought you the award-winning PLAYSTATION Network title flOw are back with another concept that challenges traditional gaming conventions. Flower expands the team’s tradition of delivering simple gameplay, accessible controls and a medium to explore emotional chords uncommon in video games. In Flower, the surrounding environment, most often pushed to the background in games, is pulled to the forefront and becomes the primary “character.” The player fades from an external and stressful world in the opening of this fresh and genuine game only for PS3, and journeys through beautifully vivid landscapes, changing the his surroundings and exploring nature along the way.
Playing as the wind, the player guides and grows a swarm of pedals by interacting with other flowers and the surrounding environment. The goals and journey in each level vary, but all involve flight, exploration and interaction with the level. Using simple SIXAXIS wireless controls, the player guides the lead petal and accumulates a swarm of flower petals as he moves at his own pace within the environment, causing the on-screen world to change. Flower’s gameplay offers different experiences, pacing and rhythm to all players. Along the way, the environment will pose challenges to the player’s progress.
Both pastoral and at times chaotic, Flower is a visual, audio and interactive escape on PS3.
KEY FEATURES
– Simple Gameplay Controls – Accessible controls appeal to both the casual and hardcore gamer and offer simplistic and relaxing gaming. Freely playing as the wind is as easy as titling the SIXAXIS wireless controller.
– Lush and Interactive Environment on PS3 – In Flower, over 200,000 blades of grass are simulated and animated simultaneously on-screen, creating an verdant environment not possible on any other platform.
– Dynamically Adjusting Experience – Players with differing skill levels and/or moods can intuitively customize their game experience and enjoy the game at their own pace.
