Well that didn’t last long.

While Infinite Crisis has been playable in closed or open beta since 2013, the free-to-play DC Comics MOBA only just launched into its official live service, including a release on Steam, in late March. Now, only a couple months later, Turbine has announced plans to shut the game down on August 14, 2015. So you might as well start calling it “Finite Crisis”, because the game won’t be around much longer.

The speed of its collapse is a shocker, but in the grand scheme of things it’s not surprising that Infinite Crisis has struggled to find its niche in an oversaturated genre ruled by the likes of Dota and League of Legends, with Blizzard bringing even more MOBA competition to the market now that Heroes of the Storm has launched. To me, it always felt like the game overstayed its welcome in beta. There seemed to be genuine interest surrounding the title when it started open beta last year, but by the time the game left beta it was clearly too little, too late.

While the game will remain playable for free until August 14th, Turbine has ceased all development as of today, so you can say goodbye to all hope of ever seeing any of the unreleased champions.

If you bought either the Starter Pack or the Elite Pack on Steam, Steam Customer Support is now accepting refund requests. Additional questions and concerns about the closure can be submitted directly to Turbine customer service at support.infinitecrisis.com.

Farewell, Infinite Crisis. We hardly knew ye.
