For the third year in a row, Activision is teaming up with Frito-Lay for a Skylanders promotional contest.

This year, the partnering companies are turning to the franchise’s dedicated fanbase to help choose and name a new playable character for the next Skylanders game due out sometime this year.

Until March 21st, you can visit www.fritolay.com/skylanders and first choose one of the three heroes (pictured in this post) you want to see as a character. From there you will make up your own name for the character and describe the inspiration behind the name in 200 characters or less. Then in May, a panel of judges will select one fan-created name for each character and the three finalists will be put up to a fan vote to choose the one hero that will be brought to life in the game.

Sometime later in the year, the top vote-getter will be revealed and the fan responsible for the submission will win a $100,000 scholarship, in addition to the immortality of having their named hero appear on packaging materials and in the game itself.

On the Frito-Lay side of the promotion, specially marked variety packs of snacks like Lay’s potato chips, SunChips, Doritos, Cheetos and Fritos will contain coupons for Skylanders products, as well as promotional information about the hero naming contest, throughout the spring while supplies last.
