Halo 3: ODST Campaign Added to The Master Chief Collection (Free For Early Adopters)

In a two-part downloadable content drop today, 343 Industries has added the Halo 3: ODST campaign as well as the “Remnant” map for Halo 2: Anniversary multiplayer to Halo: The Master Chief Collection on Xbox One.

The multiplayer map is free to all players. The Halo 3: ODST campaign is also a free digital download, but only if you bought the Master Chief Collection and connected to Xbox Live between November 11th and December 19th of last year. If you beat that deadline, you should have already received your free code. However, if you didn’t play the game before the cutoff date, the campaign is on the Xbox Store as paid DLC for only $4.99.

“Remnant” Multiplayer Map Comes to Halo 2: Anniversary

A secluded island, hidden along the coastal regions of Delta Halo, “Remnant” features a towering and iconic Forerunner megalith, weathered over untold millennia. The map’s asymmetric layout and the artifact’s elevated, yet embedded, position, make it perfect for classic Slayer, Assault, and 1-Flag CTF game types. Halo 3: ODST ViDoc 3 – “Terra Incognita”

Before Halo 3: ODST ships next week, the Bungie guys have released a third ViDoc providing an in-depth look at what’s been changed to give ODST a unique feel and what’s stayed the same to retain the core Halo values. You’ll definitely learn some interesting new details about ODST you probably haven’t heard before. Just make sure you have enough time free to watch this one, as it’s over 8 minutes long!

Bungie and Microsoft premiered a surprisingly cool live action trailer for Halo 3: ODST over the weekend. Turns out, though, that was only an abbreviated version. A new extended cut has now been released, packed with 60 additional seconds of live action ODST awesomeness. Beginning this Saturday August 22nd, Microsoft and Bungie’s custom Halo 3: ODST Transport Vehicle (pictured) will head out on a nationwide mobile GameStop tour. Outfitted with eight Xbox 360 consoles, the modified M820A2 expandable truck will give fans a hands-on sneak peek at Halo 3: ODST‘s new Firefight co-op mode leading up to the full game’s launch on September 22nd.

Halo 3: ODST will ship in two SKUs this September 22nd, Microsoft announced today. The standard edition will sell at the usual $59.99 and contain two discs: one with the game on it and a second containing 24 multiplayer maps, three of which will be brand new, the rest of which will be all the original Halo 3 maps and those from the Legendary, Heroic, and Mythic map packs. But for $99.99 you will also be able to get the Halo 3: ODST Collector’s Pack. Pictured to the right, the Collector’s Pack bundle contains the aforementioned two-disc game content along with a special edition wireless controller (two pics of just the controller are posted on the jump). Considering the amount of hype that surrounded the original Halo 3, this is probably only the tip of the iceberg as far as special tie-in content for ODST.

Halo 3: Recon Renamed Something Awful

Back during TGS in October, Microsoft and Bungie took the wraps off of Halo 3: Recon, the standalone prequel expansion to Halo 3. Seems Bungie wasn’t quite happy with that initial title for some reason, though, as they’ve now gone and changed it to Halo 3: ODST. ODST is the acronym for Orbital Drop Shock Trooper, which is the character you will be playing as, so it makes sense. But sensible or not, I don’t quite understand the need to change away from Recon (maybe Bungie was worried it’d get lumped in with the Ghost Recon games or something). All’s I know is Halo 3: ODST sounds silly. But oh well, bad title or not it’s the quality of the game that ultimately counts.
