Nintendo land marks the third stop on our recap tour of the many games of E3 2012, and coincidentally enough, a game called Nintendo Land is among the top sights to see. Nintendo Land is but one of many shiny new titles Nintendo brought to its Wii U coming-out party. Mario, Luigi, Wario and those adorable Pikmin are all on the guest list, joined by third-party icons like Rayman, Batman, Ryu Hayabusa and Ubisoft’s rascally Rabbids.
E3 was also a show of continued momentum for the Nintendo 3DS. After a sluggish start, Nintendo’s 3D gaming handheld has survived through a tough recovery process and is now charging full steam ahead with new installments in mega-franchises like New Super Mario Bros., Paper Mario, Luigi’s Mansion, Kingdom Hearts and Castlevania.

Square Enix has three sweet Nintendo 3DS titles on the way in the coming months just in time to help gamers beat the summertime heat, all three previously without specific North American ship dates. Not any more. This week, official launch dates have been penciled into the summer release schedule for Heroes of Ruin, Theatrhythm Final Fantasy, and Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance.

They’ll be packed into boxes and piled into trucks for their journey to retailers in that order, too. Heroes of Ruin will kick off the Nintendo 3DS triple threat on June 26. A week later, Theatrhythm Final Fantasy makes beautiful JRPG music on July 3. Then the grand finale: Kingdom Hearts 3D: Dream Drop Distance drops onto store shelves and fulfills gamer dreams on July 31, weird title and all.
So, you have a couple months to clear your current gaming log, save up your pennies, and stock up on icy pops, because come late June Square Enix’s Nintendo 3DS summer of fun is so on!

The touchscreen interface, inventory management, skill trees, mini-bosses and puzzles are other topics briefly covered in the walkthrough, so check it out for a fairly thorough preview of what’s shaping up to be a must-have 3DS RPG to tote around on vacation once it launches this summer. That’s June 26 in North America, to be specific.

Teaming up with developer n-Space, Square Enix has announced the development of Heroes of Ruin for the Nintendo 3DS, an action-RPG with an emphasis on multiplayer and social networking.
Heroes of Ruin brings together four unlikely heroes for a portable adventure like no other. Players will be able to go at it alone or band together for seamless drop-in/drop-out co-op play, fighting through dangerous creatures and varied environments to advance their hero, complete quests, collect loot and outfit with new weapons and armor.
Social networking will also feature prominently, with the game taking advantage of the 3DS StreetPass and SpotPass wireless connectivity features to reward players with rare items and challenges by connecting to local Wi-Fi hotspots and establish a ‘Traders’ Network’ where players can buy and sell items generated from other players’ inventories as they pass by. A companion website will be available as well, providing adventurers a portal to daily quests and community interaction.
“Using the Nintendo 3DS
’ StreetPass
and SpotPass
functionality, HEROES OF RUIN will offer extensive multiplayer elements,” said Mona Hamilton, vice president of marketing and public relations, Square Enix, Inc. “We hope to create a community of HEROES OF RUIN fans who play well beyond the single player campaign and experience the story in completely new ways.”
I love pretty much all things Square Enix, and n-Space is pretty consistent in developing high quality portable games, so I’m sold. The only bad news? Heroes of Ruin won’t be available until 2012, which means the wait for the first great Nintendo 3DS RPG is going to be a long one!
