Box Art Alert: Kratos Looms Large on Soulcalibur: Broken Destiny Cover

Kratos was a great get for Namco Bandai as the guest character for Soulcalibur: Broken Destiny, and they sure are using the God of War star’s towering popularity among the Sony fan base to help generate even more buzz and draw even more eyes to the upcoming PSP-exclusive fighter currently slated to ship September 1st. Just look at the game’s box art, Kratos and his signature scowl are clearly the focal point (it’s a snazzy cover too by the way, dontcha think?). I suppose this should come as no surprise though. Looking back at past box arts in the series, Namco Bandai has always prominently featured the platform-specific guest fighters on the covers. Just like Link’s appearance in Soul Calibur II, I can see Kratos pulling in new fans who would otherwise have little to no interest in a Soulcalibur game.

Soulcalibur games always have special guest characters tying into the platform their on, and Soulcalibur: Broken Destiny for PSP will be no different. Namco Bandai has just confirmed that God of War star and everyone’s favorite Blades of Chaos-wielding badass, Kratos will be Broken Destiny‘s guest character when the game launches this summer. It’s a no-brainer really. Kratos is such a perfect fit for Soulcalibur‘s weapon-based fighting style.

“In creating the Soulcalibur PSP system exclusive title, we knew Kratos was the only choice to appear as our special guest character,” said Makoto Iwai, Executive Vice President and COO, NAMCO BANDAI Games America. “God of War embodies the characteristics of a classic Soulcalibur guest character with a powerful persona, a rich back story and a mighty blade with which to fight.”

“The God of War development team are huge fans of the Soulcalibur series. We were honored to make Kratos a special guest character in SOULCALIBUR: Broken Destiny for PSP,” said Allan Becker, senior director, SCEA Santa Monica Studio. “NAMCO BANDAI has been great to work with; they’re dedicated to bringing authentic Kratos combat moves to the game.”

Kratos Joins Hot Shots Golf: Out of Bounds Roster Tomorrow!

With tomorrow’s PlayStation Store update, God of War‘s star bad ass Kratos will put away his Blades of Chaos and pick up the Clubs of Chaos to join the playable character roster in Hot Shots Golf: Out of Bounds, SCEA’s Chris Hinojosa-Miranda revealed on the PlayStation blog today. The God of War and Clap Hanz teams worked diligently to fit Kratos into the game, too, so expect authentic voice overs and animations, just in a more lighthearted manner. No pricing for the download has been provided, but judging from past DLC it’s safe to assume $0.99 will be the cost of admission.

Hopefully this paves the way for more Sony characters to show up in Hot Shots. I’d love to putt around the links with the likes of Sackboy, Nariko, Ratchet, Clank and even Nathan Drake. Come on Sony, make it happen!
