Hooked on the property like a junkie (only cash is the drug in this instance), Warner Bros. enters 2013 ready to push even more LEGO games on young, impressionable gamers. We aren’t even two weeks into the New Year and already four new LEGO games have been announced.
Clearly the main draw will be LEGO Marvel Super Heroes. WB and TT Games have achieved great success on the DC Universe front with the LEGO Batman titles, so it’s only natural they finally turn their attention to that other popular comic label.
LEGO Marvel Super Heroes is in development for a Fall 2013 launch on all the major modern platforms, including 3DS, DS, PC, PS3, PS Vita, Wii U and Xbox 360. The game will follow an original storyline in which over 100 unlockable Marvel Universe characters will fight to save the world from evil, starting in a LEGO replica of New York City. Characters confirmed so far include Spider-Man, Iron Man, Wolverine, Captain America, the Hulk, Thor, Black Widow, Hawkeye, Deadpool, Loki and Galactus. I for one can’t wait to play as minifig Deadpool, although his brand of insane humor will most certainly be toned down for the more playful, family friendly LEGO brand.
Elsewhere on the LEGO front, WB has announced three additional games based on the new Legends of Chima universe consisting of magical animal tribes in a fantasy setting. The three distinct titles will span a variety of platforms, including an iOS game (which is already available from the App Store), a game for portable systems (3DS, DS, and Vita), and a free-to-play online world. Check below for the specifics.

]]>LEGO Legends of Chima: Speedorz, a racing mini-game produced by TT Games and 4T2, revs its way on to LEGO.com today and iOS tomorrow, January 3. Players will race against famous Chima characters, battle through iconic Chima locations, and unleash the power of CHI to boost their Speedorz, all while collecting studs and rewards to unlock more Speedorz and customize characters. The player’s goal is to become the ultimate champion and win Golden CHI, which transforms the world map and opens a new race level.
LEGO Legends of Chima: Laval’s Journey, developed by TT Games, is scheduled to be available for the Nintendo 3DS hand-held system and for the PS Vita system in summer 2013 and for the Nintendo DS hand-held system in fall 2013. Players will embark on an amazing adventure into the world of Chima where the brave warrior Laval and his allies are called upon to fight for justice.
In Fall 2013, LEGO Legends of Chima Online, a free-to-play, online world developed by WB Games Montréal, will provide kids with a safe and incredibly immersive connected game experience. Players will be able to build and customize their kingdom in the world of Chima, explore massive environments like the Falling Leaves Forest, take on missions to help Laval and his friends, uncover hidden secrets and treasures, earn rewards, and use LEGO bricks to build weapons, gadgets, and more!
The Chima Vault, which houses an exclusive reward system, will be accessible to players on LEGO.com/chima. While playing LEGO Legends of Chima: Speedorz and LEGO Legends of Chima: Laval’s Journey, players will be able to earn points. These points can be redeemed through the Vault for a variety of unique content that players can use to enhance their experience in LEGO Legends of Chima Online.
OK, this LEGO thing is going too far now. While Star Wars, Indiana Jones and Batman all at least made sense, LEGO: Rock Band is about the most blatant money grab of a licensed game I’ve ever seen. Worse yet, it makes absolutely no sense. LEGOs and Rock Band, where’s the connection?
Whoops, sorry! Jumped ahead of myself there. If you hadn’t heard, Warner Bros, TT Games, LEGO Group, Harmonix and MTV Games have all partnered up to create LEGO: Rock Band, a fusion of the two popular franchises promising to bring family-friendly rockin’ to DS, PS3, Wii and Xbox 360 this holiday season. In the game you’ll take your little LEGO band on tour through LEGO settings jamming out songs like Carl Douglas’ “Kung Fu Fighting” and Europe’s “The Final Countdown”. So yeah, it’s a casual-skewed Rock Band with a coat of LEGO paint. I just don’t get it…
]]>“LEGO Rock Band combines two compelling properties and creates an experience that family members of all ages will enjoy playing together as a group,” said Tom Stone, Managing Director, TT Games. “Harmonix and MTV Games are the world experts in music gameplay, and we’re genuinely thrilled to bring the unique and humor-filled LEGO experience to their Rock Band universe.”
“We’re thrilled to offer another LEGO branded gaming experience that will deliver humorous and social play for families and friends,” said Henrik Taudorf Lorensen, Vice President, the LEGO Group. “LEGO Rock Band is built around the same values of imagination and family-friendly creative role play that is present in other LEGO videogames. It will deliver innovative new elements of game play that complement the fun of the Rock Band experience.”
“Rock Band is a social game experience that crosses every generation and every genre of rock,” said Bob Picunko, Senior Vice President of Electronic Games for MTV Games. “Harmonix and MTV Games are big fans of the LEGO game franchise and excited to work with TT Games to develop a new take on Rock Band that focuses on great music and LEGO humor that’s fun for the whole family.”
