New Beta Sign-Ups: Far Cry 3, DUST 514, Mercenary Ops and Fray http://www.vgblogger.com/new-beta-signups-far-cry-3-dust-514-mercenary-ops-and-fray/15438/ Thu, 17 May 2012 20:10:34 +0000 http://www.vgblogger.com/?p=15438 Developers are readying their games for closed beta testing en masse this week, Far Cry 3, DUST 514, Mercenary Ops and Fray all now accepting tester applications. If you’re interested in signing up, read along for registration instructions and beta details for each game.

Far Cry 3 Closed Beta:
FarCry3
Ubisoft is offering gamers many ways to join in on the Far Cry 3 multiplayer beta, scheduled to run for two weeks this summer on both PS3 and Xbox 360. The easiest method to apply for an invite is to enter via the game’s Facebook sweepstakes page where 500 beta keys will be given away. Or you can just kick back and monitor Ubisoft’s website and social channels as well as other partner websites for giveaways. For GameStop PowerUp Rewards members, purchasing Tom Clancy’s Ghost Recon: Future Soldier when it launches next week will guarantee a beta spot. Codes will be emailed out to be redeemed at www.gamestop.com/code.

In the multiplayer beta, up to sixteen simultaneous players per match will have the opportunity to choose from six playable classes and will able to experience online action within multiple maps and modes – including the innovative Firestorm mode. Dozens of weapons with hundreds of upgrades and customizations will also be available. Gameplay includes teamplay-focused experiences with support points and weapons, as well as the ability for all classes to revive fallen teammates. Zip-lining, combat sliding, psyche gas and barrel bombs are just some of the gameplay elements that can be experienced when playing.

DUST 514 Closed Beta:
DUST514
Registration for CCP Games’ free-to-play, PS3-exclusive MMO first-person shooter is now open and will gradually expand throughout the summer leading up to the game’s release late this year. Select EVE Online players and attendees of the EVE Fanfest back in March get first dibs on DUST 514 beta access this week. For everyone else, register at www.dust514.com/beta to be considered for an invite. Additional details will be announced at E3.

Mercenary Ops Closed Beta:
MercenaryOps Unreal Engine 3-powered free-to-play third-person PC shooter, Mercenary Ops, is scheduled to usher in its first group of beta testers beginning June 20th. To be considered for this initial wave, blast up the game’s Facebook page with a ‘Like’. Mercenary Ops is developed by Yingpei Games (formerly Epic Games China), published by Kalends Publishing, and will launch this summer. Participating beta testers will get an early look at six different game modes and both competitive and co-op play up to eight players.

Fray Closed Beta:
Fray
Brain Candy’s squad-based sci-fi strategy game, Fray, is looking for PC/Mac testers as its summertime release approaches. You’ve got two options: Plug in your email address at the signup page for a chance at a beta key or pre-order the game to guarantee an invite. There are other perks to pre-ordering, too. You’ll lock in a discounted rate of $19.99 for the full game (regular price is $24.99), receive a free second copy of the game to give to a friend, and benefit from the ability to keep all experience points and credits earned during the beta to carry over when the final build launches.

In its current state, the Fray beta features 12 maps, 6 classes, 2 corporations, over 20 weapons, an XP system for unlocking squad upgrades and in-game chat functionality. Additional modes, optimizations, bug fixes, class/weapon balances, maps and other features, such as achievements and faction loyalty, will be introduced in updated builds throughout the beta.

So, that’s where we’ll kick things off with this weekend’s edition of Screenshot Saturday. One of the top stories of the week was Halo 4 getting its confirmed November 6 global launch date so it’s only fitting that Master Chief’s grand return to Xbox 360 glory headlines the latest edition of Screenshot Saturday. New Super Mario Bros. 2 and Crysis 3 certainly deserve to share the spotlight, as does the charmingly beautiful PS3 RPG Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch. (Level-5’s latest is a treasure trove of desktop wallpaper material.)

Other top draws this week include Resistance: Burning Skies, Sorcery, Tekken Tag Tournament 2, Dragon’s Dogma, Inversion, The Dark Eye – Demonicon, Transformers: Fall of Cybertron, Mercenary Ops and the iOS version of Marvel vs. Capcom 2.

For sporty gamers, new shots are also in for Pub Games, Sega’s official London 2012 Olympic Games video game, Super Black Bass 3D and Pro Cycling Manager 2012 / Tour de France 2012. Anime lovers won’t want to miss the first screen grabs from Dragon Ball Z for Kinect and One Piece: Pirate Warriors, and casual Nintendo 3DS/DS players should enjoy the scenery of Thundercats and three newly announced titles from Rising Star Games, including Cradle of Rome 2, Cradle of Persia and To-Fu Collection.
