If you haven’t fired up your Nintendo 3DS to check for updates today, pull out your fancy 3D portable gaming machine right now and click the notifications menu. There, you will find a free upgrade for the StreetPass Mii Plaza, which introduces a fresh new layout (it looks like an actual game plaza), touch-screen controls, four new Puzzle Swap panels and new expressions and greetings for Mii avatars.
Of even greater significance, the update also welcomes four original new Mii Plaza games, adding a side-scrolling shmup, a community gardening sim, a castle and army building strategy game of territorial control, and a puzzle-based haunted mansion to existing StreetPass favorites, Find Mii and Puzzle Swap.
The four new games are:
Mii Force: Players use StreetPass Mii characters to blast their way through enemies and keep the galaxy peaceful.
Flower Town: Players plant seeds in their virtual gardens. When players StreetPass with other players, their plants are watered. Cross-pollination can lead to new breeds.
Warrior’s Way: Players use StreetPass to recruit troops and amass an army to unify a country.
Monster Manor: Players collect StreetPass Mii characters that bring new pieces of floor. Players can then create rooms, fight ghosts and unlock treasure chests in a climb to the top of the mansion.
These new games are not free however. Each one costs $4.99 individually, or $14.99 for the full set. But they do tie in with a new reward system. Achieving certain accomplishments in these games will reward you with tickets. These tickets can then be exchanged for new Mii outfits and hats, including a full-body Luigi Costume, a Yoshi’s Egg Hat, a Super Mushroom Hat and a Super Star Hat.
