When Sega recently announced Virtua Tennis 4, you knew it was only a matter of time before 2K Sports fired back with a Top Spin 4 announcement — and that time is now!

Top Spin 4, developed by 2K Czech, is officially a go for 2011 release on PS3, Wii and Xbox 360, and, like every tennis game sequel, it is promising to bring “the competitive action of tennis to life like never before with redesigned controls, jaw-dropping player models and Signature Style animations, enhanced TV-style presentation elements, and one of the deepest player rosters to date featuring tennis’ top athletes and legendary pros.”

And, well…that’s about all that’s been announced at this point. Obviously the Wii version will support motion controls, but in today’s press release 2K gives no indication as to whether or not the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions will support Move and Kinect, respectively. Move support would be welcomed for sure, but I don’t think I’d want to play a tennis game by swatting my hand like a racket as Kinect play would require. We’ll just have to wait and see what happens on the motion control front.

“Top Spin 4 is shaping up to be the most realistic and exhilarating tennis game in the Top Spin franchise,” said Greg Thomas, president of product development for 2K Sports. “For this iteration, the development team is focused on delivering a bold new take on the sport of tennis by allowing gamers to experience first-hand an uncanny level of realism in the player and stadium models, authentic audio captured directly from real tennis matches, and all-new innovative controls to dominate the competition.”

Actually, the headliner of today’s Top Spin 4 unveil is its pre-order bonus. Exclusively at GameStop and only for the PS3 and Xbox 360 versions, North American pre-order customers will receive Andre Agassi as an exclusive DLC bonus player. And not old, bald Andre Agassi either. I’m talking fake-mullet Andre Agassi from his early “bad boy” years. Sweet!
