One Piece – VGBlogger.com http://www.vgblogger.com Celebrating geek culture -- Books, Gadgets, Video Games & More! Namco Bandai has revealed some exciting new details about the upcoming release of manga-inspired action/adventure game One Piece: Unlimited World Red.

In the Story Mode, which features an original scenario by series creator Eiichiro Oda, a new “Difficult” mode will be unlocked after the first play-through. With Difficult mode unlocked, enemies and bosses will put up a much tougher fight upon replaying the episodic adventures of the Straw Hat Crew, with rare special items to be awarded for taking on the additional challenge. It’s unclear if this higher difficulty will function as a true New Game+ mode, but any added replay incentive will be a definite plus.

Speaking of bosses, some of the Pirates and Marines you can expect to face off against include Shanks, Boa Hancock, Trafalgar Law (aka Surgeon of Death), Aokiji, Rob Lucci, Caesar Clown, and Doflamingo. In addition to the storyline, Eiichiro Oda has designed two new characters just for the game: a cheerful and sassy raccoon named Pato, and a pirate villain named Red Count.

Eager One Piece fans who pre-order the game ahead of launch will also be treated to a “Day One Edition” upgrade containing exclusive DLC created in commemoration of the animated series’ 15th anniversary. The extra content will include a Strong World Adventure Outfit for Luffy, 9 additional anniversary costumes for members of the Straw Hat Crew (Luffy, Nami, Sanji, Chopper, Zoro, Usopp, Franky, Robin and Brook), and the “Flame Fist & Straw Hat” bonus quest.

Developed by Ganbarion, One Piece: Unlimited World Red is scheduled to launch in the U.S. on July 8th for 3DS, PS3, Vita and Wii U. It’s important to note that retail distribution will vary by platform. The 3DS and PS3 versions will be sold in stores nationwide, while the Vita version will see a limited retail release exclusive to GameStop, and the Wii U version will skip brick and mortar altogether for a digital download release via the Nintendo eShop. Pricing also varies: $29.99 for 3DS, $39.99 for Vita, and $49.99 for PS3. (I don’t have confirmation for the Wii U price, but I’m guessing it’ll be equal to PS3.)

Before you go, please enjoy a new batch of One Piece: Unlimited World Red screenshots and character art fresh from Namco Bandai’s E3 showing.

One Piece: Pirate Warriors Goes All Dynasty Warriors on Your Manga-Lovin’ Ass http://www.vgblogger.com/one-piece-pirate-warriors-goes-all-dynasty-warriors-on-your-manga-lovin-ass/15083/ http://www.vgblogger.com/one-piece-pirate-warriors-goes-all-dynasty-warriors-on-your-manga-lovin-ass/15083/#comments Tue, 24 Apr 2012 02:40:44 +0000 http://www.vgblogger.com/?p=15083

Eiichiro Oda’s manga masterpiece gets the Dynasty Warriors treatment in One Piece: Pirate Warriors, coming exclusively to PS3 via PSN download later this year. Tecmo Koei’s Omega Force team is rocking out on this anime brawler, the fetching manga graphics authentically capturing the One Piece spirit in grand fashion. As an Omega Force game, you can count on two things: it’s going to be shallow as a kiddie pool, and it’s going to be mindless, button-mashing fun. I’m down for that.

One of the top stories of the week was Halo 4 getting its confirmed November 6 global launch date so it’s only fitting that Master Chief’s grand return to Xbox 360 glory headlines the latest edition of Screenshot Saturday. New Super Mario Bros. 2 and Crysis 3 certainly deserve to share the spotlight, as does the charmingly beautiful PS3 RPG Ni No Kuni: Wrath of the White Witch. (Level-5’s latest is a treasure trove of desktop wallpaper material.)

Other top draws this week include Resistance: Burning Skies, Sorcery, Tekken Tag Tournament 2, Dragon’s Dogma, Inversion, The Dark Eye – Demonicon, Transformers: Fall of Cybertron, Mercenary Ops and the iOS version of Marvel vs. Capcom 2.

For sporty gamers, new shots are also in for Pub Games, Sega’s official London 2012 Olympic Games video game, Super Black Bass 3D and Pro Cycling Manager 2012 / Tour de France 2012. Anime lovers won’t want to miss the first screen grabs from Dragon Ball Z for Kinect and One Piece: Pirate Warriors, and casual Nintendo 3DS/DS players should enjoy the scenery of Thundercats and three newly announced titles from Rising Star Games, including Cradle of Rome 2, Cradle of Persia and To-Fu Collection.
