Project Natal specifics are still slim, but at the Tokyo Game Show Microsoft is proudly touting the third-party support its controller-free, full-body motion sensing camera has accrued since its E3 unveil.

Activision Blizzard, Bethesda Softworks, Capcom, Disney Interactive, Electronic Arts, Konami, MTV Games, Namco Bandai, Sega, Square Enix, THQ and Ubisoft all have Project Natal projects in the works, according to a press release Microsoft released from TGS, and Capcom’s Keiji Inafune, Sega’s Toshihiro Nagoshi and Konami’s Hideo Kojima actually participated in a TGS panel discussing the possibilities of the new Xbox 360 control technology. Hmmm…could we possibly see Project Natal-powered Mega Man and/or Metal Gear Solid?

“‘Project Natal’ gives the industry’s creators and storytellers the freedom to dream of new experiences and to tell stories never before possible,” said Don Mattrick, senior vice president for the Interactive Entertainment Business at Microsoft Corp. “The support of these creative partners testifies to the excitement that ‘Project Natal’ is generating among the most innovative minds in the industry, and is proof that Xbox 360 not only offers the best games and entertainment today, but will lead with innovation and new ways to have fun in the future.”

Of course, none of these publishers or developers have released word one on the Project Natal games they’ve got in the pipeline, but details are said to be coming “at a later date.” Hopefully that later date is soon, as I still need to see some impressive software to sell me on the damn thing!

Here’s what some of third-party partners are saying about Project Natal.

EA Sports President, Peter Moore:

“Microsoft ‘Project Natal’ could fundamentally change the way players experience sports games. At EA, some of our top development teams are experimenting with these tools with the goal of delivering a completely fresh take on genres like sports and racing.”

Activision/Blizzard Senior Vice President and Head of Publishing, Dusty Welch:

“Activision is encouraged by the innovation that Project Natal will bring to the industry and how it can transform consumers’ video games experience. We have development teams working on Project Natal development kits to explore the creative possibilities this new technology affords.”

Capcom Managing Corporate Officer and Head of Research & Development, Keiji Inafune:

“I strongly feel that ‘Project Natal’ will expand the possibilities of gaming. It’s yet another component that adds to the appeal of Xbox 360 and demonstrates to users the broad level of entertainment it provides. Personally, I too am extremely excited about ‘Project Natal.’ It’s really going to stir up our creative spirits. I think it’s going to bring new ways to play and new surprises to Xbox 360 fans and help further the development of completely original content. ‘Project Natal’ is definitely something people should look out for.”

Ubisoft Chief Executive Officer, Yves Guillemot:

“Ubisoft sees enormous opportunities with ‘Project Natal.’ With the 3-D camera, your body can become the interface. Any barrier related to the use of pad controllers that may have existed for potential gamers is now abolished. Ubisoft is already taking advantage of this major evolution to design new types of gaming experiences and attract more people to play video games.”

[E3 2009] More Project Natal Footage http://www.vgblogger.com/e3-2009-more-project-natal-footage/4814/ http://www.vgblogger.com/e3-2009-more-project-natal-footage/4814/#comments Tue, 02 Jun 2009 01:30:00 +0000 http://www.vgblogger.com/?p=4814 Here are the two Project Natal videos that were shown during Microsoft’s E3 presser Monday afternoon. The first is the unveil trailer showing the basic mini-game usage of the device. The second is the astounding Milo tech demo presented by Peter Molyneux and Lionhead Studios. The technology on display in the Milo demo in particular is impressive and a bit frightening at the same time (if it really does work as advertised), but I’m still not seeing how any of this will hold any interest beyond tech demo shock and awe. It’s neat to watch, but in my own household would I really want to talk and make friends with a virtual character? No, no I wouldn’t.

[E3 2009] First Project Natal Footage http://www.vgblogger.com/e3-2009-first-project-natal-footage/4807/ Mon, 01 Jun 2009 15:18:07 +0000 http://www.vgblogger.com/?p=4807 If you missed Microsoft’s E3 press conference unveil of its new “Project Natal” motion control camera thingamajig, here’s a brief video showing the Ricochet and Paint Party tech demos that were demonstrated live during the presser. The really impressive stuff was Molyneux’s Milo demo, but none of that’s shown here.

So, what are your first impressions? Yay or nay?
