Cowabunga, dude!

Man, it has been too long since I’ve had a reason to say that. It’s been what, three or four years since the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles last appeared in a video game? Well, Turtle Power is finally back as Activision and Red Fly Studio today announce Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles: Out of the Shadows, a 3D brawler inspired by the modern Nickelodeon animated series.

Out of the Shadows will be released this summer as a digital download via Steam, PlayStation Network and Xbox Live Arcade. Players will do battle against the Foot Clan across levels set in New York City as hyper-realistic, 3D-style representations of Leonardo, Donatello, Michelangelo, and Raphael. The game will support online co-op up to four players (well, duh!), skill-based combat, and in-depth character development.

A lot of these details still need to be fully explained, but for now a few screenshots and a brief announcement trailer will have to do.

Mushroom Men Hype in Full Effect http://www.vgblogger.com/mushroom-men-hype-in-full-effect/3566/ Mon, 04 Aug 2008 17:09:40 +0000 http://www.vgblogger.com/?p=3566 MM VW Bus.jpg

Legendary isn’t the only upcoming game Gamecock is heavy into hyping up at the moment. In tandem with the developers at Red Fly Studio, Gamecock has come up with all sorts of promotions to get the buzz going for Mushroom Men, which comes out this fall for the DS as Rise of the Fungi and the Wii as The Spore Wars. To start with, get a load of the spiffy Mushroom Men VW Bus that’s been custom built. Neat, huh? No word yet on what the bus will be used for, like maybe for some sort of game tour or if it’s just for show, but more info on that is supposedly on the way.

Elsewhere in the Mushroom Men universe, the artists at Red Fly Studio have created an assortment of pre-order goodies sure to please any game swag collector, including a set of 24 collectible trading cards, a poster and a statue of the games’ fungal hero, Pax. Pre-ordering Rise of the Fungi for DS will get you one pack of 11 trading cards and the poster while pre-ordering The Spore Wars for Wii will get you a second pack of 11 cards and the statue. Each version will also come with 1 additional card (completing the set of 24). Of course, if you aren’t in the business of pre-ordering, you can go about collecting all the cards by looking in the August issue of Nintendo Power for the first three and by attending the Penny Arcade Expo later this month or the Nintendo Power 20th Anniversary party being held at the Nintendo World Store next month, among other methods that’ll be announced. Check below for a gallery of the poster, statue and some of the trading cards.

Last but not least, there are a couple of contests to point your attention to. First is the Nintendo Power “The Search for the Magic Code” sweepstakes which will award two lucky winners with a trip to the 20th Anniversary shindig mentioned earlier. And secondly, GameStop is currently holding another sweepstakes giving away a 5 day/4 night cruise for two aboard Jam Cruise 7 to four winners. Click on the provided links if you’re interested in trying your luck with either contest.
