SideQuest Studios and eastasiasoft are partnering up once again to begin development on a successor to Rainbow Moon, the well-received tactical RPG released last year on PS3 and currently in the process of being ported to the Vita this year.
Rainbow Skies is being built on the Rainbow Moon gameplay system, but will take place in a completely new fantasy world with a new story to discover and new characters to meet. Also new to the game will be a monster recruitment system, an enhanced battle system with additional combo attacks, an upgraded side quest system including new treasure hunting quests, and various other extra touches like new mini-games and “dungeon elements” of some kind.

SideQuest is being extremely vague about everything right now, and for good reason. Rainbow Skies won’t be released until late 2014. Yes, I said late 2014. That puts it well over a year away. It’s so far away, SideQuest won’t even say which platforms the game is being developed on, only that it’s coming to “consoles and handhelds.”
With such a long way to go, it seems safe to assume that it’ll likely appear on PlayStation 4 at the very least, and I would guess the Vita as well since that’s a platform the original is releasing on. Who knows beyond that. We could very well see it on PS3, Wii U and/or the next Xbox. They did say consoles with an ‘s’, as in more than one console. Handhelds is plural too, but I can’t think of another handheld that it would make sense on other than tablets maybe. I’m just tossing out ideas here, nothing’s official yet.

Clearly there are a lot of questions that still need to be answered. We’re going to see if we can score some interview time with SideQuest Studios to hopefully find out a little more about the project. Stay tuned, y’all.
