Without a doubt the strangest E3 game I’ve come across is a peculiar Wii U indie title called Spin the Bottle: Bumpie’s Party. The name alone is odd, but the weirdness really begins once the teaser trailer starts to roll. (Click play if you dare!)

Seriously, WTF did I just watch? Clearly my mind is making the ‘E for Everyone’ game way dirtier than what it actually is, but all I see is a bunch of phallic cartoon characters sitting around playing with each other. Then at the end of the trailer, after one of the characters finishes bumping its head against a wall, the screen whites out (if you catch my drift) for more than five seconds. And THEN I go look at the screenshots and see one with the phrase “Grab the Rooster” (which sounds like an alternate form of choke the chicken), and the dirty thoughts continue to pile up.

Dragging my mind out of the gutter for a moment, though, the premise behind Bumpie’s Party actually sounds kind of neat. It’s a party game similar in setup to Spin the Bottle, only the bottle is replaced by the GamePad. Two to eight players shut off the TV and gather in a circle around a GamePad to spin a virtual bottle. But instead of kissing when the bottle stops (well I guess kissing is allowed, but it’s not required), the two randomly selected players will get up to perform one of 17 different collaborative mini-game challenges using Wii Remotes. See, that’s a pretty clever party game idea–especially a drinking party game!

Indie developer KnapNok Games is currently aiming to release Spin the Bottle: Bumpie’s Party on the Wii U eShop in early July. KnapNok will also be experimenting with a unique pricing structure: They will release the game for cheap to start but raise the price incrementally as new content updates are added. Early adoption will be incentivized by rewarding buyers at the low starting price with the added content for free as it is released.

Man, I almost want to go buy a Wii U just to find out how this game turns out.
