After a year and a half in development, one of the Xbox Live Arcade’s most heralded games is FINALLY making its way to PSN!
Castle Crashers, The Behemoth’s cartoony arcade hack-and-slash, will be available for PS3 download on August 31st at a price of $14.99. A demo will also be available for try-before-you-buy types, and the PSN version will come with new modes, including a volleyball mini-game and a team arena (and possibly other surprises!), to make up for the long wait.

Xbox Live Arcade has some great games lined up for the remainder of ’08, but most of it still seems to be a lot of remade classic arcade games and other such titles that live off the past. The Behemoth’s side-scrolling beat ’em up Castle Crashers — think Golden Axe meets Alien Hominid — is really the only title that stands out as something unique and original. Of course, if you were to only see the game via this latest round of screenshots you’d probably be confused as to just what in the hell it is. Can you tell that it’s a side-scrolling beat ’em up from these stills? I sure can’t. Some of the screens (like the one pictured above) look almost as if they are images pulled from a Where’s Waldo? book. It’s odd too because I’ve watched a lot of gameplay footage and in motion I’ve never seen it so cluttered and confusing.
