Terrarian Population Grows by the Millions on Consoles and Mobile

I rarely if ever report on sales/download figures, but I was caught a bit off guard by this news when it came across the wire so I thought I’d pass it along real quick for those who may find it equally interesting.

505 Games is reporting that the mobile versions of 2D sandbox adventure Terraria have exceeded 1.3 million full-game paid downloads across iOS and Android. Furthermore, the PS3, PS Vita, and Xbox 360 versions have also combined for another one million downloads.

I don’t know what the latest figures are on the original PC version, but Wikipedia says that it had pushed over two million copies as of last January. By now, with additional Steam sales and whatnot, it has to be somewhere in the ballpark of three million. Across all platforms, that would total somewhere around five million downloads.

I knew the game was popular, but I never would have guessed there were that many Terrarians out there. Not too bad for what used to be a humble Windows-only indie game. Not too bad at all. Actually, that’s pretty damn impressive.
