Sony and Rhino Studios’ PS3 title Afrika has been shrouded in mystery since first being unveiled a couple E3’s ago. As a matter of fact, what type of game it is exactly still hasn’t even been announced yet, and it doesn’t even have a final title. At least at this year’s TGS we got a new trailer to peek at and attempt to decipher. Standing out amongst the incredibly detailed African wildlife and landscape on display, scenes of a photographer snooping around snapping shots of the animals and patrolling about the herds in a jeep do provide strong hints at possible gameplay concepts. Assuming the role of a wildlife photographer would be a neat idea I think, but we’ll have to wait and see what the official word is before getting too excited. For now just enjoy the new footage.

This trailer looks like poop (compared to the trailer from last year). The pre-rendered trailer from last year’s TGS had my hopes up for something much more life-like in this title.
Well, workstation demo footage will always look better than a game in progress and remember, games generally EVOLVE as the dev process continues. On the other hand, you rarely see a game where every single thing that a developer wants makes it into the final version (and yup, that includes visuals in some cases). Last year at this time, people were complaining about Metal Gear Solid 4 game footage that looked worse than the first stuff shown, but it’s clear that the game is outstanding and gets better with each new rev. I’m guessing Afrika will go through similar changes before it’s finished, so don’t crank up the skepto-mometer just yet…

Well I think the game looks great from this trailer myself lol. Obviously a pre-rendered trailer is going to look better, pointless comparing that to real game footage.
