In the same way The Expendables movies pay homage to the Hollywood action heroes of the 80s and 90s, Ubisoft’s The Expendables 2 game appears to be paying homage to classic arcade action games of that era. Old favorites like Commando, Cabal and Contra certainly come to mind as I watch this debut gameplay trailer, and those are three great games to emulate. Plus, you’ll get to play as digital avatars of Sylvester Stallone, Dolph Lundgren, Jet Li and Terry Crews, and that’s pretty awesome. I’m almost as excited to play this as I was that PS1 Apocalypse game starring Bruce Willis back in the day. Actually, I still have a copy of that hanging around here somewhere; I may have to pull it out for a quick trip down memory lane.
The Expendables 2 will be available July 31st as a timed PS3 exclusive as part of the second annual PlayStation Network Play promotion, with versions for PC and Xbox Live Arcade to follow a couple weeks later on August 17th. The game will sell for $14.99/1200 MS Points ($11.99 for PS Plus members).
