The Banner Saga Has the Prettiest Beards and Banners You’ll Ever See in a Video Game

Holy cow, does The Banner Saga look absolutely beautiful!

Successfully Kickstarted as of the spring of 2012, The Banner Saga is a turn-based strategy role-playing game inspired by Viking culture and Norse mythology, brought to life by some of the most glorious hand-painted 2D graphics I’ve ever laid eyes on. Seriously, I almost thought I was watching a preview for some new animated movie when I hit play on the game’s new announcement trailer. See for yourself below. (I’ll also have a follow-up post coming later with some new character portraits so you can see more of the game’s gorgeous art.)

Helmed by a three man team of former BioWare designers now operating indie studio Stoic Games, and in partnership with indie publisher Versus Evil, The Banner Saga is officially confirmed for a launch date of January 14, 2014 for PC and Mac. If you haven’t already, you can also try out the precursory The Banner Saga: Factions, a free-to-play PVP game currently available on Steam.

Right now, all that I want is a desktop wallpaper of the title art pictured at the top of this post. This one’s nice to start with, but come one Stoic, kicks us some more wallpaper options already!
