I can’t remember where I saw it, but one site made a pretty convincing case that three of the characters in the trailer could be the returning leads from Vice City, San Andreas and GTA IV, only now their older. They pulled screens from the trailer and compared to the originals and they do look very similar. That could make sense given the talk about retirement in the trailer, and Rockstar would definitely drum up even more hype by bringing GTA stars past together for one story. But… even if that turns out to be true, I still can’t work up any excitement over the game. Something about GTA and Rockstar games in general just don’t impress me.

Sure the new location looks great, but it seems to feel too much like GTA 4. Obviously R* is very good about playing their cards at the right time, so drumming up excitement now just as the rest of the winter releases being to peak makes sense. Give players a taste of what to expect next year and start the hype.

Compared to the teaser trailers for LA Noire or Red Dead Redemption, GTA V just looks like 4. Nothing really distinguished stands out.

Personally I would’ve preferred to see GTA V set in Chicago or Detroit, where there could be a gritty story in a city that hasn’t already been captured with the R* touch.

I’ll change my mind after they’ve trickled out a few new trailers explaining more of the story or explaining characters.
