The Legend of Zelda Dynasty Warriors Mash-up You Never Knew You Wanted is Coming to Wii U

There’s a new, proper Legend of Zelda game in development for Wii U, but this is not it. Hyrule Warriors (working title) is a side project in development at Tecmo-Koei for a Wii U release in 2014.

As I’m sure you already pieced together from the word ‘Warriors’ in the title and the fact that Tecmo-Koei is the developer (or maybe because I already gave it away in the headline), this is a mash-up between Nintendo’s iconic franchise and the Dynasty Warriors kill-the-endless-mobs-of-brainless-enemies third-person action game format. Seriously, watch the trailer–Hyrule Warriors literally looks like nothing more than Dynasty Warriors with a Zelda-game skin.

Yeah, so it’s a bit of a lazy spin-off, but that doesn’t make it any less desirable for those of us who enjoy a good, brainless game of hack-and-slash every now and then. It’s not the Wii U Zelda game we really want, but it should help pass the time until Eiji Aonuma and his design team finish their next true Zelda epic.

Already having the excellent The Legend of Zelda: A Link Between Worlds on the 3DS certainly helps as well.
